Two Diamonds for Both Majors
This is sort of an advance Michaels bid. You open 2
to show a hand with both majors. Generally it shows a hand with 5-5 in the
majors and 10 or more HCP, but with 6-5 you might have only 9 points, and if you are lucky
enough to hold 6-6 in the majors, you only need 8 points. Watch the vulnerability,
though.
If you are at the low end of the point count, make sure all of your points are in
your two suits. A doubleton Qx or singleton king in the minors and a minimum amount of
points in your two suits is not going to help much.
Responder's Bids
Responder Bids a Major
Responses at the two level and the four level are non-forcing while jump responses at
the three level are invitational.
Responder Bids a Minor
I don't think that responding with a minor should be natural. Perhaps the best
use of such a bid is to explore for a slam in one of the major suits or in notrump.
I suggest that bidding either 3
or 3
should indicate slam interest in the corresponding major - bidding clubs shows heart interest
and bidding diamonds shows spade interest.
What should the opening bidder do?
With a minimum hand, which might be most of the time, opener should simply rebid 3NT
and let responder decide. Any other rebid should show extra values and a willingness
to cooperate in the slam try.
Responder Bids Notrump
Oops. You've stumbled into a misfit. Pass.
Partner might bid 2NT or 3NT, but you haven't anything else to say. You've already
described your hand, so partner is in charge.
