We Use Odd-Even Discards
Partner, watch for my first discard!! That first card is very important,
as it will tell you what suit I like.
This is our agreement... If my first discard is an odd pip,
such as a three, five, seven or nine, I have something in this suit and am suggesting it
as a lead.
"Partner, lead this suit."
If I discard an even pip, please look at the size of it and consider it
as a suit preference signal. If it's a low card, I have something in the lower
of the other two suits, but if it's high then my values are in the higher of the other suits.
"Partner, don't lead this suit. Look at the size to see which
of the other two suits I want."
All four of the odd cards are used to show interest in one suit, and four of the five even
cards are used as a suit preference signal. The six is not used because
it's right in the middle and would be ambiguous, so the message it sends is this...
"I either do not have a card to signal with, or I have no preference.
Use your best judgment."
